Lt Gen CS Narayanan,VSM and double bar, graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps on 19 Mar 1980. He completed his Post Graduation in Medicine from AFMC in 1988 and DM (Neurology) from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1998.
He is a neurologist par excellence with a national standing in the field. He has served with distinction in Army Hospital (Research and Referral), Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore, Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt and Command Hospital (Western Command), Chandimandir as Senior Adviser, Consultant and Professor & HOD. His special interests include movement disorders, stroke, demyelinating disorders and refractory epilepsy. He was part of the team which performed the first deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease in the Armed Forces.
During his illustrious Service career of more than 37 Years, the General Officer has held various important appointments such as Brig IC Adm & Cdr Troop, Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt, Deputy Commandant Army Hospital (Research and Referral) and Senior Consultant Medicine at the O/o DGAFMS.
The General officer was awarded the GOC-in-C (Western Command) Commendation in 2010, and the COAS Commendation twice, in 2002 and 2007. The General officer has the unique distinction of being awarded Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India three times in 2009, 2014 and 2015 in recognition of his meritorious service.
Lt Gen CS Narayanan, VSM*** took over the coveted appointment of Deputy Chief Integrated Defence Staff (Medical) on 15 Sep 16 and assumed the appointment of Col Commandant of the Army Medical Corps on 05 Oct 2016 and Senior Colonel Commandant on 31 Oct 17
